AdventHealth for Children Pediatric Liver Transplant Program Performs Its First Metabolic Liver Transplant
On April 10, 2022, the AdventHealth for Children Pediatric Liver Transplant Program performed its 31st transplant and first-ever pediatric metabolic liver transplant on an infant with a rare urea cycle disorder, a genetic condition that results from a defect in one of the enzymes involved in the hepatic removal of ammonia from the bloodstream. Metabolic liver transplants correct inborn errors of metabolism and differ from other liver transplants in the specialized perioperative management that is required as the new liver produces its desired effects and built-up metabolic precursors are eradicated.

South Georgia Technical College To Offer College Completion Grant Opportunities
South Georgia Technical College will be offering a new opportunity called the Georgia College Completion Grant Program beginning Fall Semester. This new grant program is designed to assist students who have an outstanding balance due to direct costs at the college and who are within 80% completion of a credential. The maximum award is up to $2,500, depending on the unpaid balance.

Piedmont Newton Hospital has announced Beth Timberlake, MHA, BSN as its new chief nursing officer (CNO). Timberlake joined Piedmont in March 2019, and she served most recently as the director of Women’s and Surgical Services at Piedmont Newton.

New Care Center Will Help Patients Get More Seamless Care and Back Home Faster
Patients will now experience a more streamlined and organized hospital stay thanks to a new Care Traffic Control Center at Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). The new control center will help keep patients steadily progressing through the stages of care at all four NGHS hospitals, ensuring patients get the right care at the right time – and get back home as soon as it’s medically safe.
