Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who chairs the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, has requested records from Special Advisor Kari Lake at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). This request follows allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement, and national security failures within the agency.
The USAGM has been accused of cronyism by issuing contracts through the Open Technology Fund (OTF) to friends and family. Senior officials allegedly bypassed security protocols and mishandled sensitive information. A whistleblower's report led to an investigation by McGuire-Woods law firm, which confirmed dysfunction and abuse of power within the agency.
Under President Trump, these findings resulted in accountability measures that included firing several USAGM officials in 2020. However, many of these individuals were reportedly reinstated under the Biden Administration without facing consequences.
Chairwoman Greene is seeking access to settlement agreements involving USAGM officials mentioned in the McGuire-Woods Report, grant agreements awarded through OTF, and communications between USAGM, OTF, and McGuire-Woods regarding the investigation.
"The Biden Administration’s decision to rehire corrupt officials who were fired for cause under President Trump is an insult to taxpayers and a direct threat to national security," stated Chairwoman Greene. "We will not allow the Biden regime to cover up illegal activity and shield bad actors from accountability."
Chairwoman Greene awaits a response from Special Advisor Lake.
