Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has released the text of her proposed bill to officially rename the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America." In a statement accompanying the bill, she highlighted concerns about activities in the Gulf, citing issues such as human trafficking and drug smuggling by Mexican cartels.
Greene expressed that "Mexican cartels currently use the Gulf of Mexico to traffic humans, drugs, weapons, and God knows what else while the Mexican government allows them to do it." She argued that American taxpayers bear the cost of securing these waterways for commerce and protecting them from foreign military threats.
"Our U.S. armed forces protect the area from any military threats from foreign countries," Greene stated. She insisted on referring to it as "our gulf" and emphasized that "the rightful name is the Gulf of America and it’s what the entire world should refer to it as."
The Congresswoman mentioned her prompt response following former President Trump's announcement regarding this issue. "As soon as President Trump made his announcement, I directed my staff to get the bill drafted," she said. The legislative process has been set in motion with Greene noting, "We already have the bill written with legislative council and ready to file first thing Thursday morning."
Greene underscored her commitment to aligning with Trump's agenda, stating that "Congress has to take the Trump Agenda mandate seriously and that means acting fast to enact it."
The text of Congresswoman Greene's bill is available for public viewing.
