State Rep. Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) recently commended the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) for approving a $3 million grant to establish Walker Launch. This initiative is a joint effort between Walker County Schools and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, aimed at providing vocational training and educational resources for students in Walker and Dade counties, thereby enhancing their readiness for Georgia's workforce.
In expressing his gratitude, Cameron stated, "As a longtime advocate of more resources for vocational training in House District 1, I want to thank Governor Kemp and TCSG for giving students in Walker and Dade counties the opportunity to learn the necessary skills that will prepare them for a prosperous future in Georgia’s thriving workforce." He further added, "I look forward to this new development that will give Georgia’s students increased accessibility to exceptional learning experiences."
According to a press release by the Georgia General Assembly, the establishment of the new College and Career Academy under Walker Launch is facilitated by a $3 million bond grant along with an additional $100,000 cash injection. This financial support is intended to facilitate the construction and maintenance of an educational center designed to equip students with essential skills required in Georgia's modern job market.
The same press release reveals that Georgia’s College and Career Academies collaborate with over 3,000 statewide business partners. The goal of these partnerships is to effectively address increasing economic needs within Georgia while benefiting the state's student population.
Governor Brian Kemp underscored this sentiment in another press release stating: "To maintain our status as the No. 1 state for business, it's crucial we support our valued and robust workforce. Walker Launch will help prepare students for new opportunities while connecting them with the jobs of tomorrow, and I appreciate all those who worked on bringing this project to fruition."
The final note from the press release by the Georgia General Assembly indicates that Cameron serves as an elected Representative for District 1, which includes Dade County and parts of Walker County. Cameron, who was elected to the House in 2020, holds positions as Vice Chairman of the Human Relations & Aging committee, Secretary of the Interstate Cooperation committee, and contributes to various committees including Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Industry, and Labor.
