Rep. Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) is reminding eligible homeowners in House District 1 about a one-time 2023 property tax credit resulting from the Homeowner Tax Relief Grants in House Bill 18. This initiative offers up to an $18,000 reduction in assessed homestead property value for those with a homestead exemption or those who applied before April 1, 2023. Cameron commends Governor Kemp and the legislature for implementing this tax relief.

In a press release by the Georgia General Assembly, Representative Cameron was quoted as saying: "I encourage all eligible Georgians in House District 1 to be on the lookout for this one-time tax credit that was automatically applied to their 2023 property tax bills that were recently issued. With inflation at a record high in many parts of the country, I am proud that Georgia is putting money back into taxpayers’ pockets by reducing homeowners’ tax liability. The Homeowner Tax Relief Grant is an excellent example of sound public policy implemented by Governor Kemp and our state legislature to ensure that every Georgian sees some financial relief amid such economic uncertainty and instability. I commend Gov. Kemp and my colleagues in the House and Senate for continuing to put Georgian’s first with initiatives such as this."

The Georgia General Assembly allocated $950 million from the AFY 2023 budget to establish a one-time Property Tax Relief Grant program, also known as Homeowner Tax Relief Grants. This initiative offers eligible Georgia homeowners the opportunity to receive a maximum reduction of up to $18,000 on their homestead property's assessed value, provided they have a homestead exemption or applied for one before April 1, 2023. Those who meet the eligibility criteria will have a credit applied to their 2023 property tax bill, reducing their year-end county tax liability.

Further, the press release by the Assembly states that eligible Georgia homeowners should check their 2023 property tax bills for a note which will say, "The HTRG Credit Reduction shown on your bill is the result of Homeowner Tax Relief Grant enacted by the Governor and the General Assembly of the State of Georgia."

Representative Mike Cameron was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020, representing District 1, which includes Dade County and portions of Walker County. He holds leadership roles as Vice Chairman of the Human Relations & Aging committee and Secretary of the Interstate Cooperation committee while also serving on several other committees.
