Women's Basketball Grabs Another Win in UTD Hoops Classic

This past weekend (Nov. 18-19), the Covenant women's basketball team traveled to the Lone Star State to take on both the University of Texas at Dallas and Concordia University in the UTD Hoops Classic. Despite a 37-69 loss to UT Dallas on Friday, November 18, the Scots were able to bounce back and pick up a 61-52 win over the Concordia Tornados. Finishing 1-1 on the two games, the Scots return from Texas with a record of 2-3 on the season.

During Friday's matchup in Richardson, TX, Covenant first encountered the Comets of UT Dallas. The Scots found difficulty generating offensive opportunities, as the Comets controlled the contest from start to finish.  With the largest lead of the game a 33-point differential, UT Dallas maintained their hold on the game's direction and secured a 69-37 win over the Scots.

Covenant was led in scoring by Karis McIntosh, as she finished the game with nine points, two rebounds, and an assist. This performance followed the Scots' previous game against Oglethorpe, in which she tied her career-high in points at 24.

Freshman guard Amanda Neff also obtained a career-high in points, contributing eight of her own, while also tallying three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Neff was able to cash in on two of her three field attempts, all three of which came from beyond the three-point line.

However, the Scots were able to quickly shed Friday's loss as they then went on to play Concordia for their second and final match of the tournament, which was held on Saturday. In the first ever matchup between the two teams, the Scots appeared to be quite comfortable against their opponent. Covenant finished the first half with a commanding 39-23 lead, shooting an impressive 55.8% from the field and 80% from three-point territory.

Maintaining their lead for all four quarters, the Scots displayed a high level of both offense and defense for their final game of the road trip. Despite not converting a single three point shot in the second half, Covenant never let their lead slip below five points in the entirety of the final two quarters.

Finishing the contest winning by a score of 61-52, Covenant Women's Basketball grabs a major win for the early season and continues to improve as the schedule progresses. Sharing the role of leading scorer in the game, both Karis McIntosh and senior guard Ruthie Moore ended with 12 points on the night. McIntosh also amassed seven assists and five rebounds, while Moore four rebounds and an assist as well.

Senior guard and Texas native, Cosette Kirsch, also flashed her talents in the matchup as her 11 points, nine rebounds, and three assists served as a major contribution to the win and nearly earned her a double-double.

Following their return from the road trip to Texas, the Scots will travel to Sewanee, TN, in order to take on the hosting Tigers in a 6:00 PM matchup on Wednesday, November 30.
