Covenant College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Following a two-homer game Covenant softball sophomore Vanessa Davis was named the USA South Player of the Week for the period ending on April 10, announced the league on Monday.
It is the first career player of the week honor for Davis and her second career weekly award.
A sophomore from St. Cloud, Fla., Davis went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs in Covenant's 9-8 victory over Brevard in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The sophomore homered in the first inning, a solo shot to center field, then delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning. With the game tied at 8-8 in the sixth, Davis hit her second solo homer of the day that put the Scots ahead for good.
It was the ninth time in program history that a Scot had hit two home runs in a game, but the first since Morgan Lane achieved the feat in 2015.
Davis leads the team, and is third in the USA South, with five home runs to go with a .329 batting average, 16 RBIs, and 18 runs scored.
Covenant (16-11, 6-2 USA South) is scheduled to travel to Berea for a doubleheader on Tuesday (3 p.m.) before coming home to face Maryville for two games on Wednesday (3 p.m.).
