WCS Parent Mentor Receives Statewide Award

Award

Southeast Whitfield County High School recently issued the following announcement.

Whitfield County Schools would like to congratulate our own Erin Arledge for receiving the 2021 Phil Pickens Leadership Award for Parent Mentors!

Mrs. Arledge has been the WCS parent mentor for 18 years. She is especially helpful with post secondary options, including assisting parents with the Medicaid waiver, and has developed a comprehensive manual that details resources available for children with disabilities and their families.

Thank you, Mrs. Arledge, for your commitment to serving the special needs students of Whitfield County Schools and their families, and congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

The Phil Pickens Leadership Award is a state-wide award chosen by the Parent Mentor Partnership, a Georgia Department of Education initiative. The Parent Mentor Partnership places a parent of a special needs student in a school system to improve outcomes for students with disabilities by enhancing communication and collaboration between families, educators and the community.
