Thirteen hospitals within the CommonSpirit Health system were named recipients of the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, according to a March 10 announcement during National Patient Safety Awareness Week. The award recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated consistent success in minimizing preventable complications and events during patient stays.

The recognition places these facilities among the top-performing hospitals nationwide for patient safety outcomes. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals across the country based on their ability to prevent serious, potentially avoidable complications, using risk-adjusted data from 13 specific patient safety indicators between 2022 and 2024.

The honored CommonSpirit hospitals include CHI Health Lakeside (Omaha, Nebraska), CHI Health St. Elizabeth (Lincoln, Nebraska), CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley (West Jordan, Utah), Marian Regional Medical Center (Santa Maria, California), Mercy Medical Center Merced (Merced, California), Mercy San Juan Medical Center (Carmichael, California), Methodist Hospital of Sacramento (Sacramento, California), Northridge Hospital Medical Center (Northridge, California), OrthoColorado Hospital (Lakewood, Colorado), Saint Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena (Henderson, Nevada), Sequoia Hospital (Redwood City, California), St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Hospital-Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) and Woodland Memorial Hospital (Woodland, California).

“This outstanding achievement underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, safe care to every person,” said Phillip Chang, MD, Chief Medical and Quality Officer for CommonSpirit. “The recognition demonstrates our deep dedication to fostering an environment where healing flourishes. I’d like to thank all our clinical teams throughout our ministry for your commitment to patient safety.”
