The Rome Police Department's Assistant Chief of Police received an email containing a bomb threat aimed at Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The congresswoman is reportedly safe and has expressed her gratitude to the Rome Police Department for their prompt and professional actions in ensuring her security.
"The source of the email has been traced to a Russian IP address," stated officials. Given the international implications and seriousness of this threat, collaboration is ongoing with local and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Following receipt of the threat, the Rome Police Department dispatched their Bomb Squad to Congresswoman Greene's residence to verify that no active threat was present.
It is noted that this incident is not isolated; Congresswoman Greene has previously been swatted on at least nine occasions since taking office. Swatting involves making false threats to provoke a police response that could be dangerous or deadly.
