State Representative Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) showed his support for addressing illegal immigration in Georgia by voting in favor of House Bill 1105. This legislation, known as the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, aims to enhance public safety and security within the state.
"I was proud to cast a ‘yes’ vote to support this important legislation to address illegal immigration, especially while our state is still reeling from the recent killing of Laken Riley in Athens," expressed Rep. Cameron. He emphasized the need to take a stand against what he perceives as failed immigration policies of the Biden Administration and enforce the law to safeguard citizens.
The bill requires Georgia law enforcement officials to collaborate with federal immigration authorities and exchange information concerning the immigration status of individuals for public safety purposes. Noncompliance by local sheriff’s offices or law enforcement agencies could result in the withholding of state funding. Additionally, standard procedures for booking illegal aliens and foreign nationals would be mandated, with jailers preparing quarterly reports on various categories of information for each jail jurisdiction.
Rep. Cameron extended his gratitude to his colleagues, Representative Jesse Petrea and Representative Houston Gaines, for their dedication to this critical legislation. The bill stipulates that a first violation of noncompliance would be a misdemeanor, escalating to a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature for subsequent offenses.
The Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024 represents a proactive approach by state legislators to address illegal immigration and enhance public safety measures in Georgia.
