Governor Brian Kemp has announced that the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has approved a $3 million grant to establish Walker Launch, a College & Career Academy in Walker County. The academy aims to foster partnerships between Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Walker County Schools, enhancing educational experiences and workforce readiness for students in the region.

According to a press release by the Governor's office, Kemp emphasized the importance of supporting Georgia's workforce. "To maintain our status as the No. 1 state for business, it's crucial we support our valued and robust workforce," said Kemp. "Walker Launch will help prepare students for new opportunities while connecting them with the jobs of tomorrow, and I appreciate all those who worked on bringing this project to fruition."

The same press release also highlighted that the creation of Walker Launch was made possible through a grant comprising $3 million in bonds and an additional $100,000 in cash. These funds will be used to construct a modern learning environment with a curriculum tailored towards preparing students for today's workforce needs. This addition brings the total count of College & Career Academies in Georgia to 58.

TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier also commented on this development in the press release from Governor's office. "This new Georgia College & Career Academy symbolizes our unwavering dedication to providing our students with exceptional learning experiences that blend academic excellence with real-world skills," said Dozier. "Our focus remains steadfast on equipping students with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to thrive in a competitive global economy."

According to another statement from Governor's office, over 3,000 business partners collaborate with Georgia's College & Career Academies. This collaboration ensures that the curriculum and training offered align closely with industry demands, thereby enhancing graduates' employability and skill sets.
