Women's Soccer Schedule Finalized

Just 55 days away from the season opener, the Covenant women's soccer team announced its schedule for the 2022 season. Under 29th-year head coach Mark Duble, the Scots are set for 17 regular season matches.

Coming off a USA South Tournament title last season, the Scots head to the newly-formed Collegiate Conference of the South in 2022. The league features Agnes Scott, Belhaven, Berea, Huntingdon, LaGrange, Piedmont, Maryville, and Wesleyan along with Covenant.

Duble's squad begins the new year on the road on Sept. 1 at region foe Sewanee followed by a trip to Asbury on Sept. 3.

The home season starts on Sept. 6 as Birmingham Southern comes to Scotland Yard (7 p.m.).

After a quick trip to the Maryville Fall Classic on Sept.9-10 against Transylvania and Spalding, Covenant returns home for six straight matches from Sept. 13-29. The Scots open the stretch with Berry on Sept. 13 before facing Washington & Lee on Sept. 17, The conference opener is Piedmont on Sept. 21 before the annual Homecoming match on Sept. 24 against LaGrange. The Scots round out the homestand against Emory (Sept. 26) and Warren Wilson (Sept. 29).

Conference play dominates the month of October. The only regular season home match in October is Huntingdon on Oct. 15, while the Scots travel to five conference foes during the month.

Conference tournament play is set to begin on Oct. 25.

NOTES

  • Covenant will face Washington & Lee for the first time in program history on Sept. 17. The Generals were 13-3-2 overall last season.
  • The Scots play Spalding for just the second time. The two teams met in 2004, with the Scots easing to an 8-1 victory.
  • Overtime is no more...at least in regular season play. New NCAA rules for this year dictate no overtimes in regular season matches. In postseason play, overtimes are two 10-minute periods played to completion (no sudden victory/golden goal).
  • As a new NCAA conference, the CCS does not have an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament until 2024. Covenant (and all other members) are still eligible for at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. Covenant is also a dual member with the NCCAA and is eligible for postseason play with that organization.
