St. Luke’s Health, part of CommonSpirit Health, has announced that its Nurse Residency Programs in Houston have received Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. This recognition is effective from December 15, 2025, through January 31, 2030.
The ANCC reviewed the CommonSpirit Health Nurse Residency Program and recognized it for consistently delivering high-quality training and mentorship to new graduate nurses. The accreditation reflects the program’s commitment to preparing nurses for the demands of modern healthcare.
“This accreditation is a testament to the incredible dedication of our nursing leadership, educators, mentors and all who contribute to the success of our new graduate nurses,” said Ruth Owusu, DNP, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for the Houston Market. “It reflects our deep-seated belief in nurturing the next generation of nursing talent and our commitment to developing a highly skilled and compassionate workforce.”
The RN Residency program offers a structured environment where new graduate nurses can develop clinical skills and professional identity. The year-long program helps bridge academic preparation with real-world practice and aims to improve job satisfaction and retention among new nurses.
The reaccreditation covers Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Baylor St. Luke’s McNair Campus. New accreditations include St. Luke’s Health – The Woodlands Hospital, The Vintage Hospital, Sugar Land Hospital, and Brazosport Hospital. The program supports residents in various clinical settings such as medical-surgical units, oncology, critical care, rehabilitation, and emergency departments.
CommonSpirit Health operates several healthcare systems across different regions. For example, Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia is also part of CommonSpirit Health and provides comprehensive medical services at three hospitals and numerous care sites in Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia.
St. Luke’s Health includes eight inpatient hospitals in Greater Houston with over 1,400 licensed beds and more than 11,000 employees. Its facilities are known for advancements in cardiovascular care, neurosciences, oncology, transplantation services, as well as being home to the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The ANCC is an authority in credentialing programs that promote excellence in nursing globally through certification programs for individuals and organizations.
