St. Joseph Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, announced that its nurse residency programs at Bryan Hospital, College Station Hospital, and Grimes Hospital have received Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. This is the highest level of recognition for a nurse residency program.

The CommonSpirit Health Nurse Residency Program provides new registered nurses with training and support across various clinical settings such as medical, surgical, oncology, critical care, rehabilitation, and emergency departments.

“We are incredibly proud to receive Accreditation with Distinction for our Nurse Residency Program,” said Beverly Welch, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Market VP of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for St. Joseph Health. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, including the incredible nurses and leaders at our St. Joseph Health facilities here in the Brazos Valley. It validates our commitment to fostering a supportive and enriching environment where new nurses can thrive and deliver the highest quality of care to our community.”

In total, 11 CommonSpirit Health hospitals in Texas were awarded this accreditation. The list includes St. Joseph Health facilities in Bryan, College Station, Navasota; Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center; several St. Luke’s Health hospitals; Brazosport Hospital; Memorial Lufkin Hospital; and Memorial Livingston Hospital.

The four-year accreditation is effective from December 15, 2025 through January 31, 2030. According to St. Joseph Health representatives, this highlights CommonSpirit Health’s ongoing efforts to provide strong transition-to-practice experiences for new graduate nurses while supporting their professional development throughout Texas.
