Saint Joseph Mount Sterling receives Gold Seal for hip and knee replacement certification

Saint Joseph Mount Sterling has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification, according to a May 1 announcement. The hospital was recognized for meeting continuous performance standards in orthopedic care.

The certification highlights the hospital’s efforts to provide safe, quality patient care through its orthopedic program. The Gold Seal is considered a symbol of quality within the health care sector.

“This certification from The Joint Commission shows Saint Joseph Mount Sterling’s commitment to excellence, accessible health care and ongoing advancements to meet community needs,” said Jarrett Millsaps, FACHE, president of Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. “We take pride in providing the highest quality of orthopedic care to improve our patients’ health, well-being and quality of life so they can get back to doing what they love.”

The process for earning this certification included an unannounced onsite review by a Joint Commission representative. During the visit, compliance with standards was evaluated across several areas including pre-surgical consultation, intraoperative procedures, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation activities and follow-up visits with an orthopedic surgeon. These standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and include onsite observations and interviews.

Saint Joseph Health operates as part of CommonSpirit Health and is one of Kentucky’s largest health systems with 100 locations in 15 cities. Its network includes hospitals such as Flaget Memorial Hospital, Saint Joseph Berea, Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph Jessamine, Saint Joseph London, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East. Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia featured hospitals, care sites and freestanding outpatient imaging centers; it also received recognition for its commitment to quality and patient safety from leading organizations according to the official website. Additionally,Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia formed part of the CommonSpirit Health system.
