James Brown, DO, has joined Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care in London, Kentucky, according to an announcement from Saint Joseph Health. Dr. Brown is originally from Pineville and said his interest in medicine was influenced by personal experiences with his family and community.
“My grandma got really sick, and I was always a Mamaw’s boy,” Dr. Brown said. “There was a big variety in the care she got. Some were really great, while others were not as personable. I wanted to be able to provide the care for the people in southeastern Kentucky and relate to them on a personal level to give them the health care they need and deserve.”
He noted that he is committed to addressing health issues he has witnessed locally. “I’m from southeastern Kentucky. My dad had an addiction to drugs and alcohol, like a lot of people in our area. That really reached out to me as a huge problem,” he said. “I just want to be able to help my people. Everybody is my family. I wanted to practice and take care of my people.”
Dr. Brown emphasized his approach to patient relationships: “I’m just real with people. I try to be the most authentic version of myself,” Brown said. “I focus on the relationship before I even start dealing with their health care. Patients have to decide they want to make a change before there’s going to be a lasting change, and that’s where making it personal becomes so important in primary care.”
Dr. Brown earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2022 and holds degrees from the University of Kentucky in agricultural biotechnology and chemical engineering. He is completing his residency at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and is affiliated with several professional organizations including the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, Tennessee Medical Association, Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
Outside work, Dr. Brown enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his wife and two sons.
