Fifteen Hispanic students attended North LaFayette Elementary School during the 2024-25 school year, consistent with figures from the prior year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education showed.
Total enrollment at North LaFayette Elementary School was 384 students for the 2024-25 school year. Hispanic students represented 4% of the student body, ranking as the third-largest demographic group at the school.
The school is part of Walker County Schools, with its district office based in LaFayette.
Within Walker County Schools, which includes 15 schools, Ridgeland High School reported the largest number of Hispanic students enrolled in 2024-25 with 91 students.
The National Center for Education Statistics found that, statewide in Georgia, approximately 36.4% of public school students were Black, 35.9% were white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Georgia schools continue to face high rates of chronic absenteeism following the pandemic; data from the Georgia Department of Education showed 20.7% of students missed at least 10% of their school days in 2024. To address this, GaDOE has implemented a statewide attendance initiative that features a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and increased support for high-need districts to improve attendance rates.
In 2025, new legislation was passed in Georgia updating attendance regulations by prohibiting expulsion purely due to absenteeism. The new law also introduces additional reporting for attendance and aligns with alternative diploma programs.
For 2026, Georgia’s average student-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, ranking better than the national average of 15:1.
