CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospitals in Chattanooga and Hixson received “A” hospital safety grades from The Leapfrog Group, according to a May 15 statement. The organization said these are the only local health system hospitals to earn an “A” rating during this reporting period.
The recognition places Memorial Hospital among the top 39 percent of hospitals nationwide and one of only 26 in Tennessee to achieve this grade. Patient safety ratings are considered important because they reflect how well hospitals prevent errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
“This recognition shows the dedication and teamwork in our culture,” said Janelle Reilly, market president, CommonSpirit, Tennessee and Georgia. “Our employees are committed to maintaining high safety standards and providing compassionate, quality care. We are proud of our team and their focus on our patients’ well-being.”
This marks the twelfth consecutive “A” rating for Memorial Hospital Chattanooga and the ninth consecutive “A” for Memorial Hospital Hixson. Both facilities have been designated as “straight A” hospitals by The Leapfrog Group for maintaining an “A” grade over at least five grading cycles—a distinction earned by just 16 percent of eligible hospitals this cycle.
The Leapfrog Group assigns letter grades based on evidence-based measures related to medical errors, injuries, infections, and hospital systems designed to prevent them. Their grading program is peer-reviewed, transparent, free to the public, and updated twice yearly.
Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia is part of CommonSpirit Health system with three hospitals—including those recognized—alongside care sites and outpatient imaging centers according to the official website. The organization reports that it has received recognition for its commitment to quality care from leading organizations. Janelle Reilly serves as president of Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia according to the official website.
