FOIA Request to Dalton State College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, NW Georgia News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Dalton State College. The request seeks detailed information about the college’s Chinese National students and related policies under the Georgia Open Records Act ยง 50.18.70 et seq.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have requested the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

Additionally, we seek details about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We have also inquired about any recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council and asked for clarification if this overlaps with other scholarship data provided.

Furthermore, we have requested any university policies or procedures that describe how Dalton State College monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of NW Georgia News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these records is essential for fulfilling our responsibilities to inform the public effectively. We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.
