The Dade County Board of Commissioners recently held its monthly meeting, addressing a range of topics including updates on local elections, community initiatives, and board appointments.

Governor Brian Kemp has announced that a special election to fill the vacant 14th Congressional District seat will take place on March 10, 2026. The vacancy follows the resignation of U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Green. Advanced voting for this election is scheduled to begin on February 16, 2026, and the deadline to register to vote is February 9, 2026. More information can be found at the county’s official website: https://www.dadecounty-ga.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/121.

In recent meetings, commissioners recognized various community initiatives and appointed members to key boards. Reports included updates on personnel status and named an Elections Supervisor. Other agenda items covered financial reports, library and agency updates, as well as progress on SPLOST-funded equipment and election building projects.

During the December session, commissioners approved several SPLOST projects and adopted updates to the animal ordinance. They also updated agreements with the UGA Extension and Emergency Medical Services, reviewed public health financial statements, and approved opioid settlement funding for a local recovery program.

Law enforcement was commended by Dade County following arrests in an ongoing animal cruelty case reported in July 2025.
