CommonSpirit Health announced on May 6 that 86 percent of its eligible hospitals received an A or B grade in the Leapfrog Group’s spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades, surpassing the national average of 59 percent.
The announcement highlights the importance of hospital safety and quality, as Leapfrog’s grading system evaluates facilities on how well they deliver care, patient experience scores, and outcomes such as Patient Safety Indicators and hospital-acquired infections. These results provide patients with information to help them make informed decisions about their healthcare providers.
“Providing safe, high-quality care remains our highest priority at CommonSpirit,” said Dr. Thomas McGinn, SEVP and chief physician executive officer at CommonSpirit. “This recognition from The Leapfrog Group is another testament to the skill, dedication, and hard work of our incredible teams. While we continue to do well, we strive to become even better. We’ll continue to build upon this success to further elevate the care we provide.”
Leapfrog assigns letter grades from A through F based on performance across 22 national measures related to quality and safety. Dr. Phillip Chang, CommonSpirit’s chief medical and quality officer said: “While we’re incredibly proud of this recognition, it also fuels our ongoing commitment to even greater excellence. We’ll use these insights to identify areas for further advancement, ensuring that we continuously elevate the safety and quality of care provided across all our facilities.”
Chi Memorial Hospital Georgia formed part of the CommonSpirit Health system along with three hospitals and over sixty-five care sites; it featured freestanding outpatient imaging centers as well as other services according to the official website. The hospital has been recognized for its commitment to quality and patient safety by leading organizations.
In addition to recent Leapfrog grades, CommonSpirit has received several other honors including the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for National Level Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality (2024), ATA Nexus Leadership Award for its Virtual Integrated Care model (2025), finalist status for the American Hospital Association’s Quest for Quality Prize (noting leadership in improving health), as well as more than half its full-service acute care hospitals being named among America’s best by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings.
