CHI Memorial has announced that its hospitals and care sites in Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia will begin operating under the CommonSpirit Health name starting January 2026. The change is set to align with the opening of a new hospital in Catoosa County, Georgia.

The organization stated that patient care, physicians, nurses, and services at all locations will remain unchanged despite the rebranding. The three local hospitals will be renamed as CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – Chattanooga, CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – Hixson, and the new CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia. The “Memorial” name will continue to be part of each facility’s identity.

By adopting the CommonSpirit brand, CHI Memorial’s workforce of over 5,000 team members across three hospitals and 65 care sites will become visually aligned with their parent company. CommonSpirit Health operates more than 2,300 care sites and 138 hospitals in 24 states.

“As we formally adopt the CommonSpirit name, we also recognize and respect the deep local connections and community trust that have been built over time through generations of interactions and experiences,” said Janelle Reilly, CommonSpirit Health’s market president for Tennessee and Georgia. “We are simply uniting under one shared name to better reflect a connection to a larger national health system, but the local team and its dedication to this community are constant.”

The name “CommonSpirit” combines references to “Common Good” and “Holy Spirit,” drawing from scripture: “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good,” 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV). This reflects values shared by CHI Memorial since joining CommonSpirit in 2019.

The upcoming hospital in North Georgia will feature 64 inpatient beds including an intensive care unit (ICU), a full-service emergency department with 24 beds, five operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, imaging services, non-invasive cardiac imaging, and a laboratory.

Community members can expect to see new signage reflecting the CommonSpirit brand throughout local facilities in coming months. However, leadership emphasized that staff commitment to patient care remains unchanged.

CommonSpirit Health is one of the largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations in the United States. It delivers over 20 million patient encounters annually through more than 2,300 clinics and care sites along with home-based services and virtual offerings. With over 160,000 employees across its network—including nurses and physicians—CommonSpirit contributes more than $5 billion each year toward charity care programs.
